AshtangaFor those who want a serious workout, Ashtanga may be the perfect yoga. Developed by K. Pattabhi Jois, Ashtanga is physically demanding. Participants move through a series of flows, flowing from one posture to another to build strength, flexibility and stamina. It's not for anyone who's been taking a leisurely approach to fitness. The Power Yoga is based on Ashtanga.
Hatha ClassFocus on peace, harmony and bodily awareness through coordinating breath and movement. Hat means sun and ha means moon therefore Hatha represents opposing energies: hot and cold (fire and water, following the same concept as the yin-yang), male and female, positive and negative. Hatha yoga attempts to balance mind and body via physical exercises, or "asanas", controlled breathing, and the calming of the mind through relaxation and meditation. Asanas teach poise, balance & strength and are practiced to improve the body's physical health and clear the mind in preparation for meditation in the pursuit of enlightenment. Hatha class focus on breath, peace and harmony and bodily awareness. Community Hatha - Free class for all.
Vinyasa/ yinyasaVinyasa can be a fast moving practice. Linking breath with movement, we cultivate the awareness of how the body moved with breath. Vinyasa is a great cardio class building strength and balance. Class is never the same thing twice. We will find new places and spaces each time we come to the mat (just like each day brings) Yinyasa offers a sweeter ending. Getting deep in to the muscles we heated during class and allow them to cool into a longer stronger shape with longer holding, just like yin yoga.
Slow Flow VinyasaThe bridge between Hatha and Vinyasa, moving slower and softer the vinyasa, Slow flow has been designed to bridge the gap between slower hatha classes and faster vinyasa or ashtanga classes. Slow flow allows each student to flow thru a series of moderately challenging poses. Each series has been created to work thru lines in the body building strength, flexibility, and breaking thru energy stagnation. Once the lines are open, prana (chi, ki or life force) can wash through the body increasing harmony and health. Chakra Slow Flow Vinyasa Slow flow class to specifically balance the chakra system, working thru the 14 meridian lines in the body to cleanse the channel, then balancing with an fun, interactive mediation process. Charka Slow Flow in only offered once a month, so mark the calendar for the 2nd Friday!
Yin YogaYin Yoga Marinate in seated postures to open tight connective tissues of hips, spine & shoulders. Most forms of Yoga practiced today are Yang, they emphasize muscular movement and contraction. By contrast Yin Yoga targets the connective tissue of the hips, pelvis and lower spine. Yin postures are held three to five minutes at a time. This type of practice complements the more muscular styles of Yoga and is a great aid for learning to sit in meditation. Don't let this scare you... Yin is defined as soft, hidden and slow. This is a great way to unwind the mind as well as muscles.
